LOS ANGELES COUNTY – "Operating a trucking school where diesel tractor rigs will be spewing exhaust on property that is designated as open space is wrong,” said Supervisor Antonovich on his support for a lawsuit filed by community and resident groups to reverse the City of Los Angeles’ approval of a truck-driving academy in Lopez Canyon.

“Despite massive opposition from more than a dozen civic associations, environmental organizations, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved this site -- rejecting a dozen more suitable locations suggested by residents,” he said.

The Lopez Canyon Landfill was de-commissioned in 1996, at which time the City of Los Angeles re-designated the property General Plan and zoning designations as Open Space.
