SAN GABRIEL - As of early Wednesday morning, incumbent Juli Costanzo and John R. Harrington had the two highest vote totalsfor the two available seats for San Gabriel City Council. They earned 1,201 and 1,435, respectively.
"I am pleased with the results, but not the voter turnout. My volunteers worked very hard for this election and think we need more participation from the public," Harrington said. "I am going to work just as hard for the City of San Gabriel as my volunteers worked for my campaign. I will challenge the community as well as the council to improve the city."
The results are semi-official, meaning that there still needs to be a manual tally next week, and provisional ballots and signatures must be verified by L.A. County.
Harrington had the most number of votes by mail, at 577, leading the incumbent Costanzo, who had garnered 483 votes.
Chin-Ho Liao had a total number of 1,054 votes and Philip Hu had 834.
The four candidates are vying for two city council positions. It appeared as of early Wednesday morning that eight precincts had reported, leaving three precincts left uncounted. Those three precincts, however, had nothing to do with the tally for the city council candidates as they were outside San Gabriel voting measures.
The 11 polling places included schools, a fire station, a realty company and a hospital, among others.
