Located on California Boulevard, just outside the San Marino city limits, this one-story, sprawling Contemporary home, designed by Architect John Galbraith, is truly spectacular. I have driven down California many times and noticed the large, gated properties on the South side of the street. I have often craned my neck to try to get a look at what is located behind the gates and hedges. I knew that they must be great, so I was thrilled when I was offered the chance to view 2804 East California Boulevard in Pasadena, listed with Linda Chang and Brent Chang of Coldwell Banker San Marino.

The experience from beginning to end was truly magical, and I was completely enchanted with the entire property. As an extra added benefit, this home sits within the San Marino Unified School District boundaries, making it ideal for a family in search of excellent schools.

From the street, you come down a long winding driveway before you ever get a peak at the house. The front yard is extremely impressive, with many trees, mature plantings, and a large grass area. The total property measures over an acre, and since it is flat, every inch of it is usable. Even though California is a busy street, once you are within the gates of this estate, you could be in the middle of the country. It is quiet, private and incredibly picturesque.

After taking my stroll through the front yard, I entered the front gate into a lovely and peaceful enclosed entry garden. This area has a path of wood decking, which leads you to the front entrance. Adjacent to the path is a gorgeous Koi pond as well as beautiful plantings. It was as if I was whisked away to a luxurious spa retreat. I was completely hooked! With a nice view of the interior of the home from the entry garden, I could not wait to continue my tour.

The interior of the home is equally fantastic, highlighted by many walls of glass which look out to the enormous and beautiful back garden. With a total of 5,630 square feet of living space, it has a great open floor plan, which is impressive but also conducive to comfortable family living. The common areas include a large living room, a formal dining room, a media room with cathedral ceilings, an office with built-in cabinetry, a powder room, and a separate laundry/mud room. My favorite was the large and very state-of-the-art kitchen, with an attached family room and fireplace. This area has stunning views of the back yard and is perfect for family living.

In addition to the beautiful common areas, there is an equally lovely wing of bedrooms. There is a fantastic master bedroom suite, with a spacious and well-appointed master bath, a large walk-in closet, and a separate dressing table. The master bedroom is a restful retreat, with tons of light and fantastic views of the garden. There are three additional large bedrooms and two baths, as well.

The huge rear garden truly took my breath away and made me feel as if I was at a 5-star resort. It is ideal for both entertaining and features attractive patio spaces, water features, and large open grass areas. The highlight of the yard is a sleek and inviting dark bottom pool with spa. There is also a built-in barbecue with wet bar, ideal for summer parties.
