WHAT WITH more than a dozen uniformed firefighters roaming about The Huntington Library’s Friends Hall, the sound of a squawking radio was not at all out of place.
But when the San Marino Fire Dept.’s Jason Sutliff advanced to the podium and held his close to the auditorium’s microphone, all assembled fell silent.
“Thank you, John Penido for thirty-seven years as a firefighter and fifteen as chief,” said a voice on the other end of the county-wide safety transmission. “You have been an inspiration to us all.”
