The San Marino Unified School District was able to rehire more than forty certificated teachers and twenty classified support staff for the 2010 – 11 school year at Tuesday night’s board meeting, thanks to more than $4.5 million in donations courtesy of the recent ‘Refuse to Lose’ campaign, launched to offset a reduction in state funding.
The final tally includes $2,490,000 from the San Marino Schools Foundation, $1 million from major donors, $100,000 from each of the four school site PTAs and PTSAs, more than $184,000 in employee concessions that included management, administration and classified staff, a $100,000 donation from the Chinese Club of San Marino and a total of about $70,000 in SMUSD employee payroll pledges and teacher donations.
