The Junior League of Pasadena welcomed local residents interested in learning more about league membership at the group's headquarters for light refreshments and an informative presentation. Guests heard about the League's mission: to develop the potential of women, improve communities and promote voluntarism. They also toured the JLP's historic headquarters, spoke with current members about the group's exciting service projects and got a sense of why the JLP was named Nonprofit of the Year by The Pasadena Star-News' Rose Magazine.
The Open Houses are one of Junior League President Nicole Weaver-Goller's favorite events of the year, noting, “We are passionate about making a difference in our community, and welcome the opportunity to share our mission, make new friends and spread the spirit of community service with like minded individuals. Many of our attendees told us that they are already looking forward to becoming new members.”
The League is celebrating its 85th year with a look back at its history, traditions and a legacy of community projects that have endured, such as a family education and services center at Madison Elementary School, founding of the popular Kidspace Children's Museum, and creation of the docent program at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens.
In addition to helping serve their community, League members receive training in leadership and advocacy skills, management, marketing and communication skills. The League offers members a supportive environment and on-the-job experience organizing community programs, fundraising events and taking on leadership positions.
The Junior League of Pasadena encourages all women who are interested in joining to attend one of three upcoming open houses to learn more about becoming a part of its community.
There are two remaining open house dates: Saturday, August 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday, September 16, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The open houses will be held at the League's headquarters, located at 149 South Madison Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101.
